About the Rural Policing Institute

Up one level

The mission of the Rural Policing Institute (RPI) is to develop and deliver specialized and advanced training, based upon sound research, and to conduct outreach efforts for local, county, campus, and tribal law enforcement officers, and to other emergency responders located in rural areas.  To accomplish these objectives, the RPI will evaluate the needs of the rural law enforcement community; develop and deliver expert training and conduct outreach to rural law enforcement.  The RPI will work with partners and stakeholders in the development of new training programs to include a validation process to measure training outcomes.

About the Rural Policing Institute’s eLearning Component
The objective of the Rural Policing Institute’s (RPI) eLearning component is to provide high-quality and easily accessible training to local, county, campus, and tribal law enforcement officers, and to other emergency responders located in rural areas.  With over 184 multimedia online courses covering law enforcement categories such as narcotics, officer survival, patrol, and related topics, LETN’s catalogue of courses will help the RPI meet this goal. The courses are contained on a Learning Management System (LMS) that allows the supervisor to assign lesson plans in accordance with the student’s career progression, or the student can self-select courses.  The LMS will issue a certificate after the student has demonstrated the competencies learned from a course via a post-test.  The record of completion is retained in the LMS and can be exported using a csv file.
